I decided to explore the park to the right of the entrance this time, hiking generally further away from the river. This turns out to be a lovely walk deep into the woods.
Unfortunately, I'd recommend it only for hikers and those with active dogs. Several sections of the dirt trails are seriously overgrown with networks of roots, and in one part you have to scramble over some large rocks to continue. You sure couldn't bike here, but it's a lovely change from some of the more flat parks in the area.
Also note: I came here the day after a brief but heavy thunderstorm, and one part of the trail was almost impassable on foot, with large, muddy puddles covering the entire path. Not the worst thing in the world, but be aware!
