I surprised myself by managing to spend a full 20 minutes hiking Providence Park. It's still mainly tennis courts, open fields, and a playground surrounded by a paved trail in a strip of woods 50 to 100 yards wide, but a few dirt trails do break off and meander into the woods to connect to nearby neighborhoods.
Sadly, a large family was hosting some kind of big celebration at the picnic area, complete with organized cheers which echoed through the entire park during my hike.
Still, there are worse sounds to hear than that of a family being together.
